National Signing Day E-mail

Today is National Signing day for the NCAA.

Many of you are probably hoping that in the next year or two you will be sitting at a table with hats laid out in front of you, having hundreds of thousands of people sitting on the edge of their seat wondering where you will pick to go to school.

Other of you may just be hoping that a small school somewhere takes notice of your hard work and invites you to come play with them.

No matter who you are, you need to understand that the off-season is where you will make that team or you will just be another guy watching in the stands.

At MPT we teach you how to get bigger, stronger and faster.

We help you understand how certain movements will help your game.

We make you a better athlete.

If you are hoping to play college ball some day, then MPT is the place you need to be.

Our Football Program is starting on March 1st.  Be one of the 8 individuals who will get A LOT better this off-season.

Off-Season E-mail

No matter what sport you play, I am sure you have heard the saying that you win games in the off-season.

It sounds pretty dumb, but it is the reality.

If you are not getting stronger, your opponent is on the other side of town doing exactly that and he will man handle you!

If you are not getting faster, your opponent will be and he will smoke you next year.

If you are serious about getting better at your sport, you have to practice and make sure your skills are sharp.  Your coaches have to get you prepared for the games.  The scouts have to give you a heads up on your opponents tendancies.  But, if all else is equal it is the guy who is working the hardest in the off-season who is going to win.

If you want to start on your team, then you need to train in the off-season harder than the second string guy. 

If you want to make all district, you have to train harder than the other athletes on other teams who play your position. 

If you want to win the state title, you have to prepare in the off-season.

If you want any or all of these things, then you need to be here training at MPT.

Everybody else can go to the velocities and Catz of the world. 

You need to be here, training with the best in order to be the best!

Sports Specific Resistance Training E-mail

No matter what sport you play, resistance training can and should play a huge role in helping you become a more successful athlete.

Most football players already understand the importance of lifting weights and many football teams have a strength coach in place to design workout specifically for them.  What I have found however is that many of these coaches are throwing together workouts that are similar to what they did in high school.  This is not completely a bad thing as the coaches are trying to teach their athletes what to do.  At MPT though, we understand the science behind lifting for a specific sport.  Football is unique in that it needs a combination of power, quickness and explosiveness.  At MPT, we will design a workout for football players designed to help them improve their performance in football.

Football players are not the only athletes who should be lifting weights though!  Girls soccer players should be lifting weights too!  Their workout program however, needs to be significantly different from that of a football player.  Soccer players need to be doing muscle endurance building exercises in addition to explosive movements designed to help improve the velocity and accuracy of their kicks.  If soccer player, and female soccer players in particular would learn to increase their muscular indurance through weight lifting, they would be amazed at the improvement they see in their on the field statistics.

It doesn't matter what sport you compete in, whether it is wrestling, baseball, basketball, soccer, football or golf, weight lifting is important and you should learn to take advantage of these benefits, because I would bet that if your competitors are not already, they will be soon.

Explosive Movements E-mail

No matter what sport you play, being able to move in a fast explosive manner is going to help your game.

If you play football, you need to explode into a runner to make a tackle.

If you wrestle, your shots need to be explosive so that you get your opponent to the mat.

In baseball and softball you swing needs to be smooth, but it also needs to be explosive in order to insure that it gets out of the infield.

One of our favorite explosive movements that we teach here at MPT is the punching bag flip.  It may not seem like much, but when you flip a 100lb punching bag end over end 20 times you will learn what it means to be explosive as you hang your head over the trashcan!

New San Antonio Athlete Training Blog E-mail

In early January of 2009, Motivational Personal Training decided to create a sports specific training program to help local San Antonio Athletes get in shape.  This training program will be different from any other Athletic Training Center in San Antonio because we will chose only the best of the best to train with us.

Athletes that train here at MPT inside one of our Sport Specific Training Programs will become stronger and faster than their peers because we will push them to reach those peaks of athletic ability while other athletes in San Antonio are sitting around getting fat and lazy or training with some huge one size fits all fitness program that doesn't get any results.

MPT athletes will be recognizable because they will lift more, run faster and be more ripped than anyone else they compete against.

Welcome to MPT, if you are accepted into our training program you will find that the trip will be rough but at the end you will be better than anyone else you compete against and you won't be just a little better, you will whip them all day long.
